Leading life towards success

My name is Reena Rokka (17 yrs) and I belong to Dalit (untouchable) community. I live with my parents, two younger sisters and one younger brother in Godawari VDC at Lalitpur district. My mother is suffering from bone cancer, for her treatment NRs 10,000/month is required. My father is only the bread winner and he has small shoe shop. We have also small plot of land but it is not sufficient for our survival. Therefore, it was very difficult for my father to fulfill our basic needs and we were surviving in scarcity.

I feel lucky as GNI Nepal has selected me as a sponsored child in 2009. I received educational support and slowly my life started to change. I got quality education, I put my effort and ultimately I passed the School leaving Certificate in second division securing 56% in 2012. After that, I was worried about my further study as I wanted to be a nurse but my parents were not able to support my higher education. Again, GNI supported me to enrol in bridge courses and I passed nursing entrance exam and got a scholarship to study nursing course at Hope International College. However, my other expenses such as clothing, stationery, transportation were not covered by the scholarship. Thank you GNN once again for supporting me to cover those expenses. Now, I am studying in second year in nursing and I don’t have stress related to nursing expanses and can fully focus on my study. I am working very hard to achieve my goal and I hope I could complete my study and find jobs so that I can support the treatment of my mother. I am very much happy and thankful to GNN as it has provided me a great opportunity to complete my study.
