Flood Affected Children Provided Educational Support

On 2nd September a flooded stream swept away 13 houses in Begkhola VDC of Myagdi District. One person died in the flood and thirteen families were displaced. On 4th September, District Disaster Relief Committee (DDRC) held a meeting for providing relief to the victims. GNI Nepal made a commitment to the committee for providing educational support to the flood affected children whereas other non-governmental organizations working in the district pledged to provide other necessary supports. Among the displaced, there are 14 children (six boys and eight girls) in total.

In coordination and cooperation with DDRC and District Education Office, GNI Nepal provided educational materials (textbooks, exercise books, pens, pencils, eraser, and geometry box), cloth and money for getting the school uniform stitched and a bag to the 14 flood-affected children. A team of GNI Nepal representatives and District Education Officer, Mr. Ram Prasad Adhikari handed over the materials. It is expected that the educational materials will help the children to continue their education and lessen the traumatic impact, the flood had on them.

The support made the children very happy and their parents were also very grateful to GNI Nepal as their children, who were about to discontinue their education, as the flood swept away their homes along with all of their belongings, got a timely educational support. The team also held a brief meeting with the school administration. The administration made a commitment to the team that they will create a conducive environment for the flood-affected children in the upcoming days.
