Relief Delivered to Flood-affected Families in Bardiya

Karnali River burst its banks and inundated parts of Madhuwan Municipality, Bardiya. The flood entered homes, damaged their possessions and food-grains, and displaced them for a number of days. The only motor-able bridge connecting the municipality to the outside world has been swept away.

On 22nd August 2017, GNI Nepal provided relief to flood affected families of Ward No. 1, Madhuwan Municipality, Bardiya. 1690 children and adults of 290 households benefited from the support. Each household received 15 kilograms of rice, two kilograms of pulses, one kilogram of sugar, one liter of edible oil and a hygiene kit. Local female community health volunteers (FCHV) oriented the families on the use of the hygiene kit. The relief was transported via a circuitous route.

Local elected representative and ward chairperson of Madhwan Municipality, area sub-division head of Red Cross Society, police officers, and GNI Nepal project management committee chairperson and station manager, Ram-Gyanu FM were present during the distribution.

GNI Nepal jointly conducted a meeting with ward office and local stakeholders for planning the relief program.

Relief will be delivered to the 210 households of Ward No.2 of the same municipality after assessing their situation.
