Ward No. 6 and 2, Malikarjun Rural Municipality, Darchula District lit up with delight and hope as it has been declared child marriage free in a formal event on December 26 and 27 2023 respectively . The event had the participation of stakeholders including police, teachers, mother group members, students, journalists, cooperative, community members and representatives from district administrative office, wards, and rural municipality. The joyous event was celebrated with poem reciting competition, rally, street dramas, Deuda song, and Chaliya dance.

Gokarna Singh Dhami, Ward No.6, Chairperson shares, “Child marriage is not prevalent in this community anymore. Anyone who is seen involved in this malpractice will be taken legal actions.”

“We are dedicated on eradicating child marriage from all wards of Malikarjun Municipality by 2082. For that we are developing necessary plans and taking actions.”, Hira Singh Dhami, Mayor, Malikarjun Municipality.

This milestone marks GNI Nepal scrutinized efforts for safeguarding children’s rights and creating a better space for their growth and development.
