Reading Fair Fostering Reading Skills

Fostering reading skills in children from an early age instills creativity and broadens their perspective. A child with sound reading skills is more likely to perform well in their academics. Considering these aspects, reading fair and exhibition events were organized in Dipayal Silgadhi Municipality (Doti District) and Budhiganga Municipality (Bajura District). In Bajura, a linked school organized an event where there was participation from 24 schools of the adjoining area. In Doti, six GNI Nepal supported schools hosted such events where there was participation of six GNI Nepal supported additional schools. Thus, more than 1,000 participants, including parents, students, teachers, SMC members, elected government representatives, and government officials, attended the events.

The main attraction of the fair were exhibitions of print-rich materials created by student- teacher- parents trio and other innovations of students, wide range of games like word formation, mathematical and memory quiz, drawing competition, talent shows like song performance, poetry recital, story narration by children and cultural tales and folk stories narration by parents. Such events do not only serve as platforms for students to showcase their hidden talent but also provide opportunities for parents/guardians to narrate their folk stories and cultural tales. It has helped to improve children’s reading skills by introducing a new and exciting way of learning and teaching methods.
